Round 1
2015 14th World Xiangqi Championship
Date: 22nd August 2015
Venue: University of Applied Languages (SDI), Munich, Germany

  1. C2=5  …………

Red uses Central Cannon.

  1. …………  H8+7    2. H2+3  R9=8
  3. R1=2  C8+4

Black deployed his left's cannon to block the mobilization of Red's chariot.
This is not common. Normally, Black would responded with H2+3 or P7+1.

  4. P3+1  C2=5

Black C2=5 for a Deferred Different Direction Cannon.

  5. H8+7  R1+1

Black choose R1+1, in preparation to move his chariot to left's flank.

  6. R9=8  R1=8

As planned by Black.

  7. H3+4  C8+1    8. H4+5  C8=3
  9. R2+8  R8+1   10. H5+3  H2+3
 11. C5+5  E7+5

After mass exchanged of pieces, this can be easily a draw game.

 12. C8+4  …………

Red forces to move C8+4. This is to protect Red horse if Black played R8+1.

 12. …………  R8+5   13. E3+5  R8=5
 14. C8=3  R5=3   15. R8+7  …………

A better move for Red could be H8+6.This in-directly not allow Black's chariot to move freely.

 15. …………  R3=8

Better would be R3=9

 16. C3=9  R8=1   17. C9=1  R1=9
 18. R8-1  P3+1   19. C1=7

Draws.
