#14 Same Direction Cannon Double Headed Snake Pawn Formation vs Double Ranked Chariot - Red C8=6 then C6+5 variation.

#14 Same Direction Cannon Double Headed Snake Pawn Formation vs Double Ranked Chariot - Red C8=6 then C6+5 variation.

Outcome: Advantage to Black

  1. C2=5  C8=5    2. H2+3  H8+7    3. R1=2  R9+1    4. C8=6  …………

As mentioned in earlier post, Red C8=6 is not efficient.

  4. …………  H2+3    5. H8+7  R1=2    6. R9=8  C2+4    7. C6+5  …………

In this variation, Red plays C6+5 to attack Black's left horse.

What is the best move for Black to respond?

  7. …………  R9=7

Correct move. Black C9=7 to protect horse. This is also one of the reason why Black did not play C9=4 in early stage. Black would like to tempt Red to play C6+5.

  8. R2+6  H7-9    9. R2-2  P7+1   10. A4+5  P3+1

Current board status analysis:

1) Red's left chariot is hardly to develop due to limited places.
2) Black 3rd and 7th Pawn have advanced. These also prevent Red's horses to develop.
3) Red can not exchange 7th pawn, Black would counter with C2=3! Red would be in difficult situation.
4) Red has wasted to move C6+5, he still need to waste another move to return his cannon.

Outcome: Advantage to Black
