#9 Same Direction Cannon Double Headed Snake Pawn Formation vs Double Ranked Chariot - Black R9=8 variation

#9 Same Direction Cannon Double Headed Snake Pawn Formation vs Double Ranked Chariot - Black R9=8 variation

Outcome: Advantage to Red!

  1. C2=5  C8=5    2. H2+3  …………

Red developed his right 's horse.

  2. …………  H8+7

Black also developed his left's horse.

  3. R1=2  …………

Red plays R1=2 for Filed Chariot, which is more popular than R1+1.

Based on games statistic, Red R1=2 has a higher winning rate if compared with R1+1.This might be the reason why R1=2 is more popular than R1+1.

Red also could play R1+1 for Ranked Chariot, however this is out of our discussion in this chapter.

  3. …………  R9=8

Since Red R1=2 has a higher winning rate, could Black trade his left chariot with Red's filed chariot? This is a common question has been asked by several Xiangqi beginners.

  4. R2+9  …………

Of course, Red would happy to trade his chariot.

  4. …………  H7-8

Now let review the board situation after pieces exchanged.

Current Board Status Analysis:

Let us count the number of valid moves for each player.

1) Red had develop his right cannon C2=5 and right horse H2+3. Therefore, there are total two valid move for Red.Also, Red move first in next move.

2) Although, Black had move his left's horse 2 times, however the mentioned horse still remains at initial position. Therefore, the horse's moves were not valid. So, the only valid move for Black was the central cannon C8=5.

3) Obviously, Red has the higher valid moves if compared with Black. We  can concluded that Red is in better position if compared with Black.

Outcome:
Obviously Black R9=8 is not a good move. Red has gained higher valid moves, advantage to Red.The correct move for Black would be R1+1 in ply #3.
